News | 2018: A Year in Paintings
At the beginning of the year I was very lucky to collect the keys to my new studio in Notting Hill. I am totally in love with the space which has a large north facing window ideal for my portrait work. I chose a gorgeous blue grey for the studio walls which compliments the various hanging landscape paintings. It feels extremely homely now and I love working there.
I welcome visits so please do book an appointment should you like to come and see my new space and available pictures.
After the success of the summer exhibition at the McEwan gallery in the Scottish Highlands, I am delighted to be exhibiting a further 5 paintings from December including my Self Portrait.
I enjoy sketching my studio buddy Raoul whenever he has time to sit for me. This is the latest portrait I did of him which was very much inspired by a moody winters day outside when the light was quite dark in the studio. It was a moment of inspiration and I liked how the light was shining on his profile.
This original was painted over a few early mornings including a Sunday. I loved the peaceful sound of the bells and stunning early light, with the campanile of San Marco just visible in the distance as a blueish tone. The water was undisturbed by boats and so the reflections were beautiful.
I was very honoured to have been selected to exhibit among some of Britain’s top PleinAir painters at the Menier Gallery last October. This painting was completed during one of the “Brit PleinAir paint out days” in St James’s Park. It was a wonderful event with painters everywhere! I loved capturing the contre-Jour effect here.
The end of 2018 left me feeling very inspired after a few trips to Barcelona. Whilst here, I visited a number of galleries and in particular was blown away by the paintings by Rusiñol and Ramon Casas at the Cau Ferrat Museum in Sitges as well as the wonderful paintings in the National Museum of art of Catalonia. I am yet to visit Madrid and the Prado but this left me eager to go and study more of Spain’s incredible art collection.
As well as visiting galleries and finding new inspiration I set up my easel in a number of places in Barcelona including the beach of Barceloneta. I loved the beautiful evening glow and enjoyed capturing the warm light as the evening set in. I found myself adding crimson to my palette, rather unusual for me as I tend to avoid it however, the purple/orangey shades of the sunset required it. It was incredible to see so many people still on the beach in December. I also loved painting in Sitges after visiting the gallery there.
I really enjoyed painting beautiful views in Courchevel for a private client. I loved painting the sun light hitting the distant peaks of the mountain and flooding down into the valley as the morning went on.
Over the past few months, my team and I have been working my new website. It has been an exciting few months and I am so pleased to be able to share it with you all. Please feel free to email me with your thoughts.
