I have walked through here for years (it is the entrance hall of a friends 15th Century home in Venice) and I have always wanted to paint it, so finally in September I did. The contrast between the colours of the sunlit grand canal and the dark room were difficult to capture and my eyes had to keep readjusting to the gloom after focusing on the canal. My favourite bit to capture must have been the lantern and the spouts of light coming through it!

Painted on the bustling little street of Carrer de l'Argenteria as the afternoon light crept up the walls of the beautiful Church of Santa Maria del Mar.
